Courtney Pine

Jazz @ Turner Sims

Spring jazz brings a celebration of Great Britons with projects of all shapes and sizes, from John Surman's much anticipated new solo saxophone project to bassist Gary Crosby's latest creation, the 16-piece Nu Civilisation Orchestra.

In between we have trios from Andy Sheppard and Julian Joseph, plus the return of the Neil Cowley Trio this time with added strings. Colin Towns' new project Blue Touch Paper is the British composer's stunning new European band, and international contributions also come from saxophonist Marius Neset, pianist Tord Gustavsen with his Scandinavian ensemble, and drummer Jeff Williams who visits with his outstanding New York quartet. Last but not least we welcome another great Briton - legendary saxophonist Courtney Pine - as guest with Southampton Youth Jazz Orchestra. It promises to be a special season.
