Pianist Ray d’Inverno relocated to West Dorset a few years ago, in part to set up his own recording studio. For many years he ran Southampton Jazz Club, alongside his career as a Professor of Mathematics and General Relativity at Southampton University.

This afternoon’s specially devised event is a family celebration featuring everything from solo items to septet arrangements. Ray is joined by his quintet Quintessential Groove, plus special guests his pianist son Mark, and leading UK saxophonist Ed Jones. And as befitting such an occasion the musical delights will be topped off with plenty of cake!

The vigorous, sometimes downright volcanic tenor sound of Ed Jones has long been one of the great live delights of British Jazz
