The English Concert perform one of the most celebrated pieces of choral music in the whole of classical music.
Handel’s Messiah was composed in just 24 days in 1741. An immediate hit at its premiere, its popularity continues three centuries later.
Although conceived as an Easter work, Messiah and its memorable tunes – including For Unto us a Child is Born and the Hallelujah Chorus – have become an integral part of Christmas celebrations.
For this exclusive UK performance in Turner Sims’ 50th anniversary year, a cast of distinguished soloists and The English Concert are conducted by the orchestra’s artistic director, Harry Bicket. They bring Handel’s masterpiece to life, whether you know the work well, or are experiencing it for the first time.
