Tcha Limberger's Budapest Gypsy Orchestra |
|
Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 19:30 at the Turner Sims
In true Hungarian Gypsy Band Style, bursts of soaring musical tragedy and czardas madness are delivered by this group with a passion and technical virtuosity that is astounding. Violinist Tcha Limberger comes from a famous family of Gypsy musicians and grew up with the Gypsy-jazz style of Django Reinhardt. Drawn to Hungarian gypsy music from an early age, he spent three years studying its roots in Budapest. Now 30, he tours with his small orchestra of hand-picked Budapest Gypsy musicians. Together they present the style of music known as Magyar Nota - passionate music as familiar to Hungarian as Tarantella is to Neapolitans and Fado to the Portuguese. Literally translated as Hungarian Song the style is mostly associated with the Budapest Cafe music made famous by the Lakatos dynasty. |
