Turner Sims Southampton has been awarded £315,755 from Arts Council England’s Ambition for Excellence fund for the development of Jazz South, an ambitious 3-year programme that will support and develop artistic talent, build quality in jazz practice, grow diverse audiences and develop a regional jazz identity across South East and South West England.
The Jazz South website, giving full details of the initiative, and how to get involved, will be launched in the autumn.

TAKE PART IN THE FIRST EVER JAZZ SURVEY ACROSS THE SOUTH OF ENGLAND
In order to engage as many people as possible with Jazz South, Turner Sims wants to ensure that they know who’s doing what and where and identify a comprehensive range of contacts. So, the first step in rolling out the Jazz South programme is active research to establish an accurate and comprehensive picture of every aspect of the jazz scene in the region.
A full audit has been commissioned to collect information about musicians, promoters, venues, festivals, youth orchestras, education projects, labels – in fact anyone and anything connected with the music.
Jazzwise, a partner in the initiative, wants to ensure that everyone active in the region’s scene pitches in – and is offering a free year’s subscription to the magazine – and a coveted Jazzwise T-shirt – to be awarded in a prize draw among all those who fill in the online survey which will be a key part of the audit.
Sign up here so we can notify you when the online survey opens and when you’ll get your chance to enter the Jazzwise/Jazz South prize draw.
