There’s no shortage of headlines proclaiming that AI will soon revolutionise everything — including mathematics — and leave no profession untouched. But what’s really happening behind the scenes?

In this accessible, hype-free talk, Professor Kevin Buzzard invites you into the daily life of a research mathematician to explore what we actually do, and how close AI is to doing — or even assisting with — that work.

The reality is complex. While there have been exciting breakthroughs and glimpses of real potential, there are still no definitive, game-changing tools that mathematicians can rely on. Is AI poised to reshape the field, or are current advances reaching their limits? Kevin will share a clear-eyed look at the evidence so far. No technical background in AI or mathematics is needed — just curiosity.
