Free Lunchtime Concert: Ivo Neame Solo Piano

Presented by the University of Southampton Music Department

For this concert and live album recording Ivo will be playing a mixture of his own compositions and some arrangements of music by musicians as diverse as David Bowie, Herbert Howells and Ernesto Grenet.

He says: “The idea is to keep it acoustic and to commit to improvising. The importance of improvisation stems from the need for us musicians to approach musical performance with a playful spirit; this approach also binds the performer and the audience to a uniquely particular moment in time. The eternal hunt for this musical gold dust continues!”

Ivo Neame is an award-winning pianist and composer. In addition to leading his own bands, he is a vital cog in several of European jazz’s most forward-looking groups including Phronesis and the Marius Neset Quintet. He regularly performs at jazz festivals worldwide, collaborating with ensembles as diverse as the Frankfurt Radio Big Band and the London Sinfonietta.
