Southampton Concert Wind Band | Notes From America
SATURDAY 13 OCTOBER - 7:30 PM
Presented by Southampton Concert Wind Band
Southampton Concert Wind Band joins forces with special guest saxophone soloist Gerard McChrystal for a spectacular evening of music, all with an American link. Gerard has thrilled audiences in over 30 countries, having collaborated with Philharmonia, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, National Symphony of Ireland, Orchestra of San Francisco Ballet, and many, many more. Tonight his programme will include the haunting and captivating John Williams composition for the sound track of the film “Catch Me if You Can”.
Gerard is Professor of Saxophone at Trinity Laban, London. He is an ambassador for Derry-Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013. Though he has featured on many recordings, his first solo album ‘Aria’ was released by First Hand Records in October 2011.
Southampton Concert Wind Band is a thriving organisation, playing an active part in the amateur musical community. They have shared the concert stage with a variety of musical partners, ranging from wind bands to brass bands; choirs to international virtuosi. As well as regular concert and bandstand appearances, SCWB has, in recent times, participated in wind band festivals, achieving Platinum Awards three years in succession.
