EXHIBITION: LORNA JONES | STORIES IN STITCH AND TIME

LORNA JONES | STORIES IN STITCH AND TIME
Monday 6th November – Friday 22nd December

My work explores our connection with objects and memories. Since I was a child I have been fascinated by discarded fragments of everyday objects found on my walks or visits to beaches. Washed up pieces of glass polished by the sea or broken pieces of pottery. Everything holds a memory and has a history. In my work I tell a story using unrelated ‘treasures’ I have found. I weave a narrative and hold pieces together with threads and stitch. Each piece can be interpreted and engaged with differently depending on the observer and their own memories and how the objects resonate with them. I am influenced and inspired by colour and my work reflects the excitement I feel when working intuitively with colour and texture. I never plan a piece. I work organically bringing together fabrics and objects and immerse myself in the making process changing and rearranging as I stitch and embellish.
