Spring 2019 at Turner Sims Southampton

A highly anticipated new Spring 2019 Season of concerts has launched at Turner Sims. It sees the beginning of exciting new projects and a glittering array of classical, jazz, world and folk music. Check out our full season promo video…

We are delighted to present a diverse programme which includes the country’s leading classical players, world-class jazz alongside emerging local talent, the continuation of our piano series, global voices, folk, film and events for the whole family.

Here are our 3 selected highlights from across the season:

1. New series: Turner Sims Presents
Across all genres, there are concerts which are produced exclusively by us, which means that they can only be experienced at Turner Sims – and nowhere else in the UK. To mention a few: Endellion String Quartet celebrate their 40th anniversary with two premieres, international world-jazz-trio NES play their first UK concert in Southampton and jazz-stars Phronesis are joined by SYJO.

2. International jazz stars share the stage with local talent – Sunday, May 5
Award-winning Anglo-Scandinavian trio Phronesis have been one of the most talked about and acclaimed European bands over the past decade. For this special Turner Sims event they join Southampton Youth Jazz Orchestra to perform music from their 2017 Edition Records release The Behemoth. The evening promises a compelling insight into the music and approach of what Jazzwise describes as One of the most exciting bands on the planet today.

3. Easter bunny, wolf and opera costumes – for all the family!
We strive to inspire (new) audiences of all ages and are proud to offer a variety of family events, starting with the interactive musical Easter Bunny Hop Bounces Back! by Bear Face Theatre and ABC concerts on April 7. Up next: storytelling, painting and live music as Turner Sims’ Orchestra in Association SÓN are joined by artist James Mayhew to perform Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf on 9 June. Finally, on July 14, we welcome back Welsh National Opera for a summer concert with a chance to meet the musicians, discover opera costumes and more.
