Introducing The Complete Concert Project

This month we’ve been having fun exploring ‘behind the scenes at a concert hall’ with Stanmore Primary and Sarisbury Junior School, in a partnership with Hampshire Music Hub.

The Complete Concert Project works with 190 year 3 & 4 children in Hampshire, with in-school workshops, an in-school performance and a trip for the full concert experience at Turner Sims.

We have been discovering who makes a concert happen, alongside the musicians of course! What different jobs do people do in a concert hall? How does each member of the team contribute to making sure an event goes smoothly?

We have also been looking at how music is written down or expressed on paper. Our wonderful artists did an amazing job visualising jazz music by saxophonist Alex Hitchcock and his band. We talked about how the music made us feel and what words described the sounds we were hearing.

It made me feel like I am playing a game of chess with the king’s gambit!

It was calming and relaxing that when I was not feeling good it made me happy.

Slow, fun, mischievous!

The children are looking forward to seeing Alex Hitchcock and friends perform live at Turner Sims at the end of this month. We can’t wait for them to experience live music at our venue!
