Turner Sims Family Summer Day

Part of Turner Sims Summer Nights, the Family Summer Day was a full day of FREE magical musical activities and events for children and grown-ups of all ages.

Families were offered the opportunity to get involved with workshops, music, craft and performances. Attendees had the option to bring a picnic to enjoy in the ground of Highfield Campus.

Amazing opportunity for all families to engage with music and the arts, incredible community resource, thank you so much 🙂

Performances included:

GROOVE SENSATIONS: A sensational sensory voyage for under 3s and their grownups. Audiences enjoyed beautiful electronic soundscapes, hard grooving funk and jazz in a magical experience for the young – and not so young.

GROOVE INTO THE WOODS: Family favourite Groove Baby presented an exciting jazz and funk-fuelled show especially for people aged 3 – 7 – and their grown-ups. Groove Into the Woods is an animated and live-action magical, musical adventure. Designed to be a midpoint between kid shows and ‘regular’ adult concerts, this show has something for everyone.

THE ENCHANTED CINEMA | SPELLS & ANIMATED JOURNEYS: Classic animated films were brought to life in this participatory live family cinema experience for ages 5 and up. Children could use cymbals, shakers, ocean drums, paper bags – and voices – to help musicians create live sound effects. The audience created their own special sound track for a rowdy party of elfin princesses and goblin princes.

Alongside these performances was a programme of drop-in workshops, including Symphonic self portraits (drawing your own orchestra), See a Song (a sensory experience inspired by music), African drummingn and the SoCo vegetable orchestra (the opportunity to create musical instruments from vegetables).

It was fabulous! It was all totally free which made it accessible to all. I thought it was really well run. It was very clear what shows were on etc. The quality of the shows were exceptional especially as it was a free family fun day. 🙂
