The Ripple Effect: The Third Orchestra

The Ripple Effect: The Third Orchestra is presented by Turner Sims Southampton in association with Orchestras Live.

This exciting new project for 2023 provides a nurturing space to develop talent and opportunities for extraordinary and experimental collaborations between diverse music creators from across the globe.

At the heart of The Ripple Effect is the experimentation and creation of music drawing on the practice, lives and experiences of emerging talent among music creators and word-based artists in Southampton, working together with The Third Orchestra. With musicians from across world traditions, the Orchestra’s repertoire spans musical genres and cultural settings, with the music drawn from each individual artist and their practice.

This pioneering project will see oboist Anna Durance, poet Issa Loyaan Farrah-Kelly, and electronic musician Matt Brombley join co-composition and writing days in London and Southampton under the guidance of the director of the orchestra, composer and music leader, Peter Wiegold.

Drawing on their heritage, tradition, and identity, the trio will generate experimental new works to be shared with audiences in Turner Sims’ award-winning performance space. They will develop professionally through this model of open dialogue which runs through the whole creation, development and performance.

Turner Sims and Orchestras Live have already fostered a strong partnership with engagement at the heart of their work. Both have established track records of developing fully inclusive projects designed to nurture talent and showcase music of the highest standard, hence The Ripple Effect promises to go deeper into these core values and bring collaboration into the forefront of the partnership.
