Hummel was Mozart’s live-in pupil and one of the pall-bearers at Beethoven’s funeral. Moscheles was Beethoven’s preferred arranger (he prepared the vocal score of Fidelio under Beethoven’s supervision). He later conducted the London premiere of the Missa Solemnis. Musicians of this calibre spent a great deal of their time arranging orchestral masterpieces for flute, violin, cello and piano, to cater for the many towns and cities that had no orchestra. Our music students will get to know these great works from the inside out by learning these arrangements.
