Top three picks from our upcoming season

Earlier this month we welcomed Freya, a local student, to Turner Sims to gain experience with the teams across our venue and the John Hansard Gallery.

June 16, 2026

With a particular interest in marketing and communications, Freya spent the week learning more about digital content creation, copywriting, social media and press releases.

One of her first tasks at Turner Sims was to create our brand-new September–December season Spotify playlist, selecting favourite tracks from some of the brilliant artists appearing in our upcoming programme.

Naturally, once the playlist was complete, we asked Freya to choose her own top three tracks and tell us what stood out to her. Over to Freya…

Freya's top three picks

I

“After listening to a lot of the upcoming performers we have in September -  December this year, I’ve picked out a few of my personal favourites.

One of my favourites is ‘Boreal Forest’ by Mammal Hands. I like this song as it has quite a nice calming feel to it, I like the way it blends classical into a more jazz feel with the instruments.

Another favourite of mine would be ‘A Journey with Giants of Jazz’ by Nu Civilisation Orchestra. I like the vocals when they come in and again, I like the jazz of it; it feels largely calming.

Another piece I quite like is ‘Anna’ by Antolio. It’s quite a reflective piece, I like how calm it feels yet not boring at all.

Overall, I would say these are my top three of the upcoming artists this year. However, I also feel there are some good songs from genres I would not normally listen to, for instance ‘Wassiye’ by Habib Koite is a really enjoyable piece of music. It has more of a beat and a vibe to it, however, it still feels controlled and not hectic at all.”
