Welcome to The Vibe Collective
The word on the street – and on campus – is that there are fresh new sounds coming to Turner Sims and it's all thanks to the Vibe Collective.
Combining their skills and expertise, as well as a passion for learning, a team of young creatives aged 18 – 25 are working together to plan and host live music events called the Vibe Lounge.
With a focus on showcasing exciting young artists, that are programmed by young people for young people, the Vibe Collective meet regularly to talk all things production, marketing, artist liaison and how to work in a professional music venue environment with experienced staff. Unique to this project, this group are both employees and learners, supporting young people early in their career to experience the full range of activities and tasks involved in this side of the industry.
So who are The Vibe Collective?
The team is made up of 50% students from University of Southampton and 50% from the local community. They bring a variety of perspectives and experiences to the table, working towards running gigs that they themselves would want to go to.
The Vibe Collective are ambitious, curious, and experimental, but not everyone has a background in music performance or production. What brings the group together is their passion for creating experiences that unite and excite our community and wanting to share their love of music with others.
As someone who has worked in the music industry for some time, my experience programming the Vibe Lounge has been so much fun and a true joy. It has relit my passion for the music industry in a way I never expected.’
What is the Vibe Lounge?
The Vibe Lounge is a live music event where everyone is welcome to enjoy music and all that comes with it. The ‘vibe’ is relaxed and inviting, and the focus is great music! Vibe Lounge events have taken place in the foyer of Turner Sims, at the Rotunda at Winchester School of Arts, and there are plans for other events across the city.
The doors are open (as is the bar). Our mission is to bring fresh sounds that attract people from across our communities to Turner Sims, often for the first time.
