One of England’s most celebrated folk performers, Martin Simpson is one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world. His interpretations of traditional songs are masterpieces of storytelling. Always prolific, he is never one to rest long without a guitar in his hands and a song in his head. He gives his rapt audiences passion, sorrow, love, beauty and tragedy through his intimate solo performances.
Martin has been nominated an astounding 32 times in the 18 years of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards – more than any other performer – and has won numerous awards. Following his stunning album ‘Skydancer’, (2024), Martin presents music from his latest release.
He is joined on stage by two extraordinary musicians. Liz Hanks is a brilliantly inventive and empathetic cellist. She creates her own music which draws on land and people, as well as collaborating with the likes of Cara Dillon and Richard Hawley.
Louis Campbell is one of the brightest stars of the folk scene, performing at venues across the country with the likes of Sam Sweeney. He will be returning to Turner Sims later in the season with his stunning duo Spafford Campbell.
One of the virtuoso instrumentalists of the English music scene... sounds better than ever.'
