Red Dôôrs brings together three distinctive musical voices: Shri’s powerful, tabla-inspired bass lines; the expressive Indian violin of the much‑respected Harpreet; and Patrick Iversen’s soaring flute woven through his distinctively Norwegian electronics.
This is a rare chance to see the project live – their only UK appearance outside the London Jazz Festival at Kings Place. Drawing on the lasting influence of the pioneering Asian Underground movement and Norwegian electronic jazz, Red Dôôrs creates a sound that feels both rooted in history and strikingly contemporary.
Famed for his self-made fretless bass, Shri was a leading figure of the Asian Underground and Outcaste records generation. He was a core member of Nitin Sawhney’s band, and one half of ground-breaking drum ‘n’ bass duo Badmarsh&Shri.
Raised in Mumbai and then moving to London in his 20s, Shri is a renowned (BASCA British Composer Award winning) composer and performer. He has appeared at Glastonbury, Later with Jools Holland, Montreaux and London Jazz Festivals. He composes for live performance, stage and screen – including Ang Lee’s ‘Life of Pi’ promo tune. He recently released a solo album, ‘Singing Bass’, and premiered his Indian classical and street music meets jazz and brass band project Dhamaal at EFG London Jazz Festival 2025.
Harpreet Bansal was born in Oslo to Indian parents, learning ragas with her father, Guru Harbhajan Singh Bansal, when she was two years old. She later studied European classical music and then North Indian Music at the Norwegian Academy of Music.
She has appeared as a soloist with such ensembles as the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Trondheim Soloists.
Harpreet’s music straddles the border between raga, jazz and Western classical idioms. She has received glowing reviews in the Norwegian and international music press. Her second album ‘Samaya’ was nominated for Spellemannprisen (Norwegian Grammy Awards) for 2018, as has her latest album ‘States of Mind’ (2025).
Patrick Shaw Iversen’s playing spans classical, jazz, improvised, and traditional music. He trained first in Western classical music. An early interest in the flute music of West Java led him to study extensively in Bandung. These experiences shaped a new way of thinking about music that he brings to his playing. His work has led to commissions from Oslo World, Arts Council England, and CODA Oslo International Dance Festival.
Alongside this, he explores electronics and live sampling. He is driven by a desire to create a modern, expanded sound for the flute. Together, these elements have established him as a true innovator of his instrument.
His passion for exploring traditional styles of music has brought him from the south-east Asia to the polar regions of the Sami people of the north. He has composed numerous scores for theatre, film and dance productions. He has been commissioned for several festivals and released and produced numerous CD productions, including 4 releases on Jazzland Rec/OK World Records.
