The John Martyn Project is an incredible six-piece band of folk and leftfield musicians, drawn together by a shared love of the iconic Scottish musician. Born from a sold-out tribute at Camden’s Jazz Café, this collective has grown into a touring sensation.
John Martyn was one of the most prolific, gifted, original and enigmatic talents in British music. His four-decade career, beginning in the 1960s, saw him fuse folk, jazz, blues, and rock into a sound that was entirely his own – raw, intimate, and revolutionary.
The lineup features four distinctive vocalists, Blythe Pepino (Blythe, Vaults, Mesadorm), Kit Hawes (Seth Lakeman, Cara Dillon, Yola), Pete Josef (Roni Size, Kelis), and Sam Brookes (Sunday Times ‘Breaking Act’). They are supported by powerhouse rhythm duo John Blakeley (drums/congas) and Jon Short (bass). Together, they reimagine Martyn’s expansive catalogue with rich harmonies and inventive arrangements, while staying true to the emotional depth that defined his work.
Expect heartfelt performances of classics and hidden gems, delivered with passion and respect for Martyn’s legacy.
