Who decides which bands play at a music venue? That’s the role of a programmer. Learn how venues of all shapes and sizes, from a concert to a street festival, decide what to programme. Then have a go yourself: design your fantasy event, can you spot the opportunities and figure out the risks?
Join us at Turner Sims – the University of Southampton’s music venue – for a series of free practical workshops introducing careers and skills in live music venues.
Workshops are booked individually so you can mix and match the ones that interest you. If you take part in at least one workshop you will have the opportunity to apply for a paid role supporting events at Turner Sims.
This workshop will be lead by Polly Eldridge (Head of Programming, Turner Sims) and Jessica Santer (Head of Programming – Engagement and Participation, Turner Sims) with special guest Deborah Yewande Bankole.
Deborah Yewande Bankole designs and produces cross-disciplinary work that prioritises social connection. As a producer and experience designer, she specialises in public programmes that transforms how audiences interact with art and with each other. Currently a creative producer of special projects and public programmes at Southbank Centre, she has spent over a decade developing multi-disciplinary projects alongside artists such as Little Simz, Chaka Khan and Jacqueline Wilson as well as with collectives like Block9. Alongside building live experiences, she is also an associate lecturer on UAL’s User Experience Design Masters, where she helps sharpen specialist skills to conceive prototype and produce human centred experiences.
This workshop is free. All participants must book a ticket.
