A journey through the enduring influence of folk music on composers, collectors and arrangers across the generations.

Drawing on English, Scottish and American traditions, the programme explores story songs and anti‑war anthems. The University of Southampton Voices perform a powerful 95‑voice arrangement of Joni Mitchell’s The Fiddle and the Drum, a song whose message remains powerfully relevant today.

Featuring arrangements by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Gustav Holst, and contemporary folk artists John Tams and Lady Maisery.
