Ancient Infinity Orchestra

Joyous, spiritual jazz ensemble visit Turner Sims for the first time with music from their new album, ‘It’s Always About Liberation’.

Ancient Infinity Orchestra is a large, communal jazz ensemble originating in the vibrant, community-driven Leeds jazz scene. Formed after years of collaborative improvisation among friends, their melodic, improvisational approach emphasises togetherness, healing, and the joy of communal music-making.

Their 16-member line-up (on tour this becomes 8) features two double basses, harp, saxophones, clarinets, violin, viola, cello, oboe, flutes, mandolin, congas, piano, drum kit. Bells, shakers and other percussion instruments are scattered on the floor of live sets and recording sessions, ready to use whenever the spirit takes them. This orchestration gives them a sound that is at once expansive and intimate. Their sound world reflects the influence of artists including Alice and John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Don Cherry, Matthew Halsall and Alabaster dePlume, combining spiritual depth with a distinctly contemporary sound.

Their third album ‘It’s Always About Liberation’ (2026), deepens the vision of their acclaimed recent work while moving into darker, more searching emotional territory. Expect hypnotic grooves, spacious improvisation and stunning ensemble playing from one of the leading collectives to emerge from the UK’s flourishing new generation of jazz musicians.
