The CSO are very pleased to welcome back guest soloist Charlie Lovell-Jones to play Sibelius’ virtuosic violin concerto, preceded by Nielsen’s Helios Overture, depicting the rising and setting of the sun over the sea.

After the interval comes a performance of Shostakovitch’s compact, transparent and classically-orientated 9th Symphony which subverted all the grandiose expectations of the Russian musical world of 1945.
