Haydn String Quartet in C, Op 54 No 2
Ravel String Quartet in F
One of the UK’s leading string quartets brings live chamber music back to Turner Sims with a programme of musical masterpieces. The Sacconis open with the second of Haydn’s Op 54 set of quartets, dedicated to the famed violinist Joseph Tost and including a suitably virtuosic part for the lead violin. Ravel’s sole quartet was written when the composer was 28 and has become one of his most often performed works. Featuring cyclical themes which occur throughout each of the four movements, the work blends dreamy harmonies and sensual melodies with a finale described by one writer as ‘a blaze of unstoppable energy’.
*Audience members will be able to park on University of Southampton Campus without a permit from 4pm*
Running time: 60 minutes without interval
