Continuing their exploration of newly imagined and interpreted music, són present a powerful and eclectic mix of string orchestra works, including The Four Seasons Recomposed by the increasingly popular post-minimalist British composer Max Richter. Featuring soloist Thomas Gould, Seasons Recomposed premiered at London’s Barbican in 2012, and the subsequent album topped the iTunes classical chart in the UK, US and Germany. Richter’s treatment of Vivaldi’s music is fascinating and engaging: despite discarding 75% of the original material, he ‘recomposes’ with phase-shifts and loops, in keeping with his post-modernist and minimalist roots.

Alongside works by Max Richter, són extend their survey of musical remodelling with Vaughan Williams beautiful Five Variants of Dives and Lazarus, as well as exploring the passionate string colours of Barber’s ever-popular Adagio and Elgar’s Sospiri – looking ahead to their next concert Elgar Unwrapped in June.
