The Third Orchestra is an inclusive, multi-cultural orchestra which sets out to dissolve boundaries between cultures and build acoustic bridges between style and genre. With a unique methodology, the sound of the orchestra is shaped by each musicians’ vibrant background, embodying a futuristic step within contemporary music and live performance. After a series of sold-out performances at London’s Barbican Centre Turner Sims is delighted to bring this extraordinary ensemble to Southampton.

This performance will feature music and performers from The Ripple Effect, an exciting collaboration between Southampton-based musicians Anna, Issa, and Matt, and The Third Orchestra.

About The Third Orchestra

The Third Orchestra is not a space where classical meets jazz, or East meets West, but one where each member comes with their own individual lineages and stories. There are artists from Korea, China, India, Mauritius, Syria, Ukraine, Germany, the US, and multi-cultural artists from the UK.

It is an orchestra of 360°, with musicians from art, folk, jazz and popular traditions; readers and improvisers; performer/creators.

A real united-nations, and a new approach to music. I just love the way there’s so many people who all or find their place with so much freedom to play.”

Benjamin Zephaniah, distinguished Afro-Caribbean poet and actor
