An Evening With Benny Greb

Presented by Graham Russell Drums and Sonor in association with Turner Sims

Amongst drummers, Benny Greb is internationally known for his skills as a sideman, a leader of his own bands and also his acclaimed solo projects. Throughout his career, Benny has worked in the studio and live for many renowned German musicians, and both audiences and critics have celebrated his own solo albums including Grebfruit and Moving Parts. Benny is also one of the most sought after drum clinicians and educators on the planet.

Benny Greb developed a strong interest in drumming while growing up in a small town in Bavaria. At the age of 12, he received professional drum instruction, while also checking out and playing along to his favourite records for continued inspiration. Later, he also invested in drum tuition videos, and he started to attend drum camps and clinics which gave him the opportunity to receive first-hand tuition from some of the worlds top drummers and also enjoy a professional exchange with his peers and contemporaries. Benny is often referred to as an excellent musician with excellent presenting skills making him very capable of sharing his insights with other drummers, helping them to refine their own craft. Jazz trumpeter Nils Wülker who has been working with Greb on a number of projects, sums it up most perfectly: ‘Benny only needs a little to accomplish a lot.’

Benny’s talent eventually led to his endorsement deal with SONOR drums, a co-operation that has been going strong since the early 2000s, resulting in various musical endeavours and his very own Signature Snare Drum. The partnership also enabled him to put together a book (The Language Of Drumming) and tuition DVDs (The Language Of Drumming – A System For Musical Expression in 2009 and The Art And Science Of Groove, 2015), thus making his knowledge available to drummers worldwide.

Benny is firmly established as an educator: his drum camps, the so-called Benny Greb Master Sessions, are now taking place all over the world and attract drummers of all styles, giving them the chance to improve their groove, strengthen their technical skills and find new inspiration.
